Reflecting on TRB Annual Meeting Washington DC, 2026

Proud Moments at the World’s Largest gathering of transportation professionals and researchers.
What a success! We are thrilled to have participated in TRB 2026 in Washington, D.C., the world’s largest technology trade fair for transportation solutions. Having our own booth provided us with the fantastic opportunity to connect with industry professionals, showcase our innovations, and discuss the future of tunnel safety and smart transportation.
We were delighted by the interest and the insightful questions from attendees, which allowed us to highlight the breadth and depth of our services:

  • Acoustic detection systems in tunnels
  • Video surveillance with event detection
  • Tunnel ventilation systems with active airflow control
  • Tunnel lighting systems with luminaires, sensors, and centralized control
  • Energy monitoring and control
  • Real-time traffic monitoring and management
  • Acceptance tests, measurements, and data analysis
  • SCADA systems for all tunnel facilities

Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and engaged with our team. Your curiosity and feedback help drive our passion for delivering innovative, safe, and efficient solutions for tunnels and transportation infrastructure.

TRB Annual Meeting 2026

We are pleased to announce that we will be participating in the TRB Conference in Washington, D.C., from January 11-15, 2026. Among other things, we will be presenting our ADS acoustic detection system for highway tunnels. Our company will also have its own booth (booth #655). Come and visit us at the presentations and at our booth.

Acoustic detection system ADS

Tunnel monitoring that uses artificial intelligence and intelligent microphones to detect critical events in less than 1 second.

The time from the occurrence of an incident to the notification of tunnel management is crucial in the case of a critical incident and is minimized by the innovative ADS safety system.
The noises typically encountered during tunnel operation are characterized by engine, rolling, and airflow noises of passing vehicles. Any anomalies in the noise, such as the impact of a vehicle against the tunnel wall, the collision of two vehicles, tire squeal, lost cargo, etc., as well as anomalies in the noise of individual vehicles, can be detected by the microphones mounted in the tunnel.
In this way, when an incident is detected in a specific section of the route, various measures can be initiated immediately and automatically. This saves valuable time and provides maximum immediate assistance and accident prevention for both those involved in the accident and following vehicles.
The systems are provided in very close cooperation with our partners https://www.joanneum.at/ and https://www.powerdynax.com/.

Synchronised longitudinal announcement

Loudspeaker announcements in tunnel applications requires more effort and knowhow than just place speakers under the tunnel ceiling.

To reliable provide understandable safety information in case its needed, the specific parameters must be considered for each tunnel.

Long time experience in tunnel applications and software simulations combined with latest technologies and production techniques of U.S. speaker manufacturers enables us, to offer solutions tailored to the specific tunnel project.

NAT Conference 2024

This year, the Inframatic company was again present at the NAT conference 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee and informed each other about the latest developments in tunnel technology.
Our Stefan Haydn was there as always and was able to have many good discussions with all the companies involved and those responsible for the tunnel industry and the authorities.

Traffic Management

Have you ever wondered why you keep standing at red lights at intersections for so long and no one comes from the other side?
The answer is very simple: these intersections are controlled by simple timers that have no idea whether a vehicle is there or not.
And our solution to this problem is even simpler.
Rely on our traffic management server.

Example image of the server with example cam images

If you think that sounds complicated and expensive, you’re wrong.
Where the relays and timers are now mounted, we simply replaced the old control components with a single control unit that processes and switches everything. To detect wheter a car or bicycle stands in front of the intersection we use cameras and detect the objects. Of course separeted by the different lanes. Depending on the local weather or environmental influences, we supplement the cameras with radar or lidar detection devices.

Control unit with digital outputs and image processing integrated

In addition to the advantage that no one has to wait unnecessarily in front of an intersection, our solution also offers many other advantages free of charge:

  • Cam images can be used also for law enforcement
  • Recording of the images
  • Cascading of following intersection is possible – Green light section over multiple controllers
  • Interface to other devices or control systems is available (e.g. BacNet, TCP, etc.)
  • Multiple fallback levels are integrated (in the event of failure of individual or all sensors)

NAT Conference 2022

Inframatic is proud to have attended this year’s NAT conference. Our colleague Stefan Haydn presented the topic of flow control in tunnels as a co-speaker.

SFMTA Examination of safety regulations, tunnel ventilation

What is a tunnel with a safety ventilation without a serious test of the same? Nothing to be exact.
Inframatic changes that by testing the safety-relevant aggregates.
Fire ventilation, using ultrasonic measuring devices in a cross arrangement, to test whether the air speed achieves sufficient performance even in the event of an incident. At the same time, we tested airflow visually, using smoke grenades.
These show “mercilessly” where any defects are.
In the case of the extension of the San Francisco Metro from Union Square to China Town, no doubt about it. The following tests were carried out:

San Francisco metro station “Union square”
  • Ultrasonic cross-measurements of the airspeed across the whole tunnel section, 4 pcs. at the same time
  • Smoke grenade test to make visible where the airflow goes
  • Door force measurements to comply with regulations
  • Noise measurements
  • Anemometer measurements
